Rule Support

We have worked hard to support as many rules and features of The 9th Age rules as possible, but in some cases we have not yet been able to do this.

Below is a list of rules, armies, items etc. that are explicitly not supported by Engine of Fate for combat simulations at this time. The list may not be complete, and it is subject to change over time.

Also please note that rules and effects that does not affect combat, are not listed below, though the rules/items should be available in unit descriptions and as upgrades.

Applicable to all armies:

For generally available rules and items the following is only partially or not at all supported:

  • King Slayer magical weapon is not supported.
  • Gleaming Icon magical standard is not supported.
  • Lucky Shield magical armour is not supported.

Beast Herds

All Beast Herds characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • Strength to Flesh is partially supported.
  • Changing Soothsayer Staff mode is currently not available.
  • Changing Drunkard mode is currently not available.

Daemon Legions

All characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • Daemons of Change always chose Divine Attacks.
  • Daemon Legions units never reroll daemonic instability tests.
  • The special rule Soulreaper is partially supported.
  • Magical item Weavers Eye is not supported.

Dread Elves

All characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • Professional Courtesy is not supported.

Dwarven Holds

All characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • Yer comin with me! is not supported.
  • Majesty off High Kings is partially implemented (does not grant frenzy to joined unit on wearers death).
  • Shield Wall and Wall of Iron may not work correctly with respect to special attacks.
  • Seen it All is not supported.

Empire of Sonnstahl

All characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • Fire on Impact is never used.
  • Parent/Supporting unit values are not set based on model counts.
  • Zealots is not supported.

Highborn Elves

All characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • Lion's Fur Armour is only partially supported, it does not grant +5 against shooting attacks.

Infernal Dwarves

All characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • Volcanic Embrace special attack is partially supported.
  • Aura of Unbinding is partially supported.

Kingdom of Equitaine - Coming soon

The army is not supported at the moment. This means that you will not be able to simulate combat with characters or units from this army.


Ogre Khans

All characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • Back to Work! is not supported.
  • The Big Name "Headhunter" is not supported.

Orcs and Goblins

All characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • Oi, it Bites! is not supported.
  • Bouncers is not supported.
  • Mikinok's Totem is not supported.

Saurian Ancients

All characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • Palanquin for Cuatl Lord is not supported.

Sylvan Elves

All characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • Joining restrictions for Kindred Blade Dancer

The Vermin Swarm

All characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • Putrid Plate is is partially supported.
  • Sicarra Assasin special rule is not supported.
  • State of Trance special rule is not supported.

Undying Dynasties

All characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • The magical weapon Vanquisher Eternal always uses the mode: Focused Strike
  • Mummy's Curse special rule is currently not supported. This means no hit is applied when a model with this special rule is removed from combat.
  • Royal Guard special rule is currently not supported.
  • Divine Light special rule is currently not supported. This means no hits are applied when the Casket of Phatep is removed from play, due to wounds in combat.

Vampire Covenant

All characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • Vampiric Special rule and related effects are not supported
  • Joining restrictions are not supported.
  • A few additional things are not supported - a complete list will follow soon.

Warriors of the Dark Gods

All characters, units, magical items, effects and special rules are available with the following exceptions:

  • The Rites of Binding special rule for Bloodbeast is not supported.
  • The Gifts of the Dark Gods; Soul Reaper is not supported.
  • The special rule Lightning Rage is not supported.
  • For the weapon Hellish Whip the initiative reducing effect is not supported.


Engine of Fate is an IT-adaptation of the rule system from the "The 9th Age" and is therefore subject to the license provided by the "The 9th Age" under commercial terms.
